Barry received his MFA-IA from Goddard College. He is a scenographer, set, lighting and costume designer and has designed sets and lights for The Warehouse Theatre in Greenville SC. He is currently the Theatre Manager and Technical Director for the Performing Arts Center at the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg.
Barry recieved meritorious design awards from The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for his set and lighting design for the University’s productions of Picnic and Our Country’s Good, the sets for Nunsense and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Look Homeward Angel and most recently for his design of Very Still and Hard to See. Barry has also worn the hats of actor and director. He has directed The Shoestring Player’s productions of The Wizard of Oz, Steel Magnolias, Leading Ladies, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, Vanities, Sordid Lives and Greater Tuna. He opened the 2009 Studio Season with the university premiere of Peachtree Battle, at that time, the first and only college or university production of the play, which has been a sell-out success in Atlanta for seasons. He has also directed Oklahoma! for Limestone College, and several musicals for the Greater Shelby Community Theatre and South Pacific for The Spartanburg Repertory Company. Barry also designed the entry archway into the stadium for the Pan American Games for the Visually Impaired and co-designed the entry and lighting for The World Goal Ball Championships!
Barry has designed and taught classes in WYSIWYG (a lighting design program), Technical Directing, Costume History and Scenography and will create a class in Sound Design for Spring 2016.
