John Dixon* was born about 1773, in North Carolina. He and his wife Mary* had four sons and three daughters. Having lived a long life of about 77 years, he died before December 1849 in Person County, North Carolina. His estate was brought before the December term of the Court of Pleas and Quarter in 1849.
Mary and John’s son Jonias was born about 1803. Another son, Samuel Adam* was born on September 25, 1813. In about 1820 a third son, Abner was born. Also born to Mary and John were was a son Thomas F. Their three daughters were Elizabeth, Martha A. and Nancy W.
Much of what we know about the children and grandchildren of Mary and John comes from John’s will. Martha A. married Benjamin Moore marriage bond dated February 9, 1818. Nancy W. married E. Epperson and they had at least one son, John Epperson. Elizabeth married John Epperson, marriage bond dated February 28, 1822. Elizabeth and John were the parents of Mary, Josiah Joseph, Elizabeth Jane and John Jr. Mary married John Dolphin Harris and they are the ancestors of many of the Harris’s of Person Co. Elizabeth Jane married a Clark.
Mary and John’s son Samuel married Elizabeth “Polly” Mary Ann Duncan* of Grandville Co., NC; marriage bond dated January 29, 1834. She was born on February 28, 1817, to William Anderson Duncan* and Elizabeth Glover Slaughter*. Samuel and Elizabeth had 15 children two of whom were twins.

Their oldest was a son, Frances Marion, born on February 8, 1834. He married Nancy A Duncan. Born next to Samuel and Elizabeth was a daughter, Mary Ann Elizabeth about 1835. She married Isaac Evans. Their next child, a daughter was born March 20, 1838. They named her Cinderillan; she married Bird Washington Long. Next Louisa A. was born about 1841. Emily Frances was born in September 1841 and married Howell H. Evans. Another daughter, Martha A. was born about 1843 and married John D. Harris. In January 1845, a son John L. was born. He married Emerline Stella Carver and Ella Jane O’Briant. On April 3, 1847, Elizabeth gave birth to twins. A boy, Samuel Abner and a girl, Joanna Thomas. Samuel married Susan Minerva Phillips and Joanna Thomas married Charlie H. Duncan. After the twins, Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter. Ella Jane was born on November 21, 1849. She married John B. Evans. Another daughter was born on April 18, 1851. They named her Sarah (Sallie) B*. She married John Henry Zimmerman*. The following year another daughter, Nancy W. was born. She married Henry Winstead. A couple of years later Elizabeth gave birth to another daughter. She was born on April 29, 1854, and they named her George Aelsay. Georgianna never married and lived on the family farm until her death. On December 30, 1856, another daughter, Susan Green was born. She married Robert Davis Long and they owned McGhee’s Mill. Samuel and Elizabeth youngest child, a daughter was born on December 24, 1858. She was given the name Lewis Archer Boswell and was called Lula. She married Jesse Rainie Long. Jesse and Robert (Susan’s husband) were brothers. Robert and Jesse’s nice Mollie Bet Long-married Sallie’s son.
Elizabeth and Samuel’s home was in Ceffo, NC. Samuel died June 27, 1881, and Elizabeth died on March 20, 1893. They along with several of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are buried in the family graveyard located on the family farm.
